Welcome to Bio-Integration

We specialize in tissue technologies that provide alternatives to current "Tissue Engineering" technologies that require seeding and incubating donor cells on materials outside the patient's body to generate "living implants".  Current "tissue engineering" technologies are very expensive and not practical for the general population.  The viability and long-term behavior of implanted cells in "living implants" are also unpredictable.  Our strategy is to allow implants to be seeded by cells in the recipient's body and utilize that body as the incubator.

Why is Bio-integration important for medicine?

It is still not known which cells are suitable for "tissue engineering".  Fetal cells have great potential, but they also have the potential for uncontrolled growth.  In addition, they eventually mature and may develop antigens that the recipient may reject.   It is also difficult to prevent disease transmission from donors or contamination in "tissue engineering" facilities.

Current "tissue engineering" technology leaves open a potential for illegal trafficking of fetuses as well as organs and cells from children.

Do you know how complicated it is to grow a "Tissue Engineered" implant?

Technologies to grow tissues so they will have the exact tissue structure and strength required are not yet mature.  Mechanical manipulation such as cycling of tension is possible but complicated.  It is extremely costly to tune the culture (incubation systems) so that they replicate conditions in a living person.  These systems utilize identical, repeated motion and stress cycles  but tissues in the human body experience a wide range of motion, as well as  physical and biological conditions
